Deze rollen zijn op dezelfde manier toepasbaar als de rubber variant, en worden identiek uitgevoerd. Het voordeel van de gietijzeren rol is dat deze slijtvaster is bij zwaardere omstandigheden. Toch blijkt uit de praktijk welk type rol het meest geschikt is voor een bepaalde situatie. Factoren als grondsoort en weersomstandigheden spelen een grote rol, en natuurlijk het meest doorslaggevend zijn persoonlijke voorkeuren. Gietijzer rollen kunnen worden geleverd met een gelagerde bus (BD, BN, BT), een as met of zonder draad(AM, IM, AZ) of een boring met spiebaan(GB, SP).
